The nephew of model/actor Tyson Beckford is now facing upgraded charges of second-degree murder stemming from a fatal crash last month in Manhattan, according to the New York Daily News.
On Wednesday, 23-year-old Domonic Whilby pleaded not guilty to murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and assault charges after crashing a stolen delivery van, leaving a bus driver dead and four injured.
"The defendant's actions, as depraved and as wanton as they were, show that no amount of bail is appropriate for this defendant at this time as he is charged with murder in the second degree and other charges," said Assistant District Attorney Randolph Clarke Jr.
As previously reported, the tragic incident unfolded after Whilby spent a night of hard partying at the city's 1 OAK nightclub with Beckford and his uncle's Victoria's Secret girlfriend Shanina Shaik. The defendant was said to be drunk and high on drugs when he collided with the MTA bus.
49-year-old William Pena, a 17-year MTA employee, was identified as the victim. He leaves behind his longtime partner Nancy Rodriguez and 14-year-old daughter.
"[Whilby] snatched William from our lives and that has drastically changed our lives forever," said an emotional Rodriguez to reporters. "I am happy that he was remanded. That will never bring William back to us but I am grateful [for] the support."
If convicted, Whilby faces life in prison.
