Idris Elba was rushed to a UK hospital on Saturday after suffering an asthma attack before boarding his flight for a news conference in South Africa, according to media reports.
The 41-year-old actor was on his way to Johannesburg for the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, in which he plays Nelson Mandela. He was reported taken off the aircraft before it left the UK.
Luckily, Elba was released in time for the South Africa premiere where he was met with co-star Naomie Harris and Mandela's wife Graca Machel. The film was shown simultaneously on three screens for an invite-only audience, which included three generations of the Mandela family and one of his former cell-mates.
Long Walk to Freedom, a Must-See Movies pick, follows the global leader’s incredible rise to power as the first Black president of South Africa.
