Tom Joyner has opened up his heart and wallet to assist Rachel Jeantel– the last person to speak with Trayvon Martin before his tragic death in February 2012– in continuing her education, if she so pleases.
Following her appearance on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight Monday, the 19-year-old star witness spoke with The Tom Joyner Morning Show early Tuesday unbeknownst to the blessing she was about to receive.
"Hi Rachel, this is Tom Joyner. I love you, I really do love you," the radio legend said. "[...] If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if its not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters, Bethune-Cookman or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that."
"I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full-ride scholarship to any HBCU youd like." The offer comes on behalf of the Tom Joyner Foundation.
Jeantel told Joyner and co-host Sybil Wilkes she was looking to pursue a career in law enforcement, but was opposed to dealing with dead bodies or attending funerals.
Wilkes added, "I got to tell you that people on social media-- whether its Tom's Facebook page, whether its Twitter or text, Tom-- everybody is supporting you, Rachel, and really want you to know that they are wanting the best for you."
