First Lady Michelle Obama played host to 54 children on Tuesday during the second annual kids' state dinner at the White House, according to The Associated Press. The group of 8- to 12-year-olds were considered the best of the best in a nationwide recipe contest to showcase healthy and delicious options.
President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the event as our FLOTUS noted standout dishes such as "Confetti Peanut Ginger Party Pasta," "Pan-seared Mississippi Catfish on a Bed of River Rice" and a "Slam Dunk Veggie Burger." (Yum!)
Out of more than 1,300 entries, the 54 winners represented all 50 states, three territories and the District of Columbia. The contest was sponsored by the Epicurious food website and the departments of Agriculture and Education.
