What would be the perfect checkmate when the dust settles on the Donald Sterling scandal? Magic Johnson swooping in to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers.
An insider told Yahoo! Sports that "Magic's absolutely interested" in locking down the deal with his Guggenheim Partners, should an offer stand.
A source continued, "This is 100 percent Magic's plan."
In a recording released Friday, Sterling name-checked the Hall of Famer when speaking with his girlfriend V. Stiviano about her public association with Black people. The owner berated her for posting a picture of herself and Johnson on Instagram (which has since been deleted) and asked that she never bring him or Black people to Clippers games.
The controversy has resulted in a full investigation by the NBA, strong player reactions, the loss of partnerships and the threat of boycotts, among other things.
Upon hearing word of the recording, Johnson responded via Twitter, stating, "[Cookie Johnson] and I will never go to a Clippers game again as long as Donald Sterling is the owner."
"I feel sorry for my friends Coach Doc Rivers and Chris Paul that they have to work for a man that feels that way about African Americans. LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling's comments about African Americans are a black eye for the NBA."
Johnson has yet to speak on the potential business deal.
