6 Months Or Less
When you haven’t been with your partner for very long, being careful about your gift is extremely important. A gift too extravagant may send the wrong message, not to mention you don’t want to kick out too much dough and not know for sure where the relationship is going. If you’re dating without exclusivity, do not buy a gift unless it’s very inexpensive. Nor should you expect one. It’s not responsible to get the milk without buying the cow. Instead consider the following:
For Him and Her:
Cook Traditional Dinner. Valentine’s Day is about the romance more than anything else. Therefore, it’s the intent behind what you do that matters more than some measly gift wrapped inside of a box. Show your mate how much you appreciate them by preparing a home-cooked meal. However, be sure to put a lot of thought into it. You’re earn extra brownie points for cooking their favorite dish paired with their very wine and dessert. You can, of course, fung shway the home with candles, roses and all that jazz. If you’re not the most gifted in the kitchen, luckily for you Plated.com allows you to have your recipe and ingredients prepped and delivered to your doorstep.
Basket of Favorite Things. Nothing screams thoughtfulness more than a basket filled with your Valentine’s favorite things. Don’t think Oprah’s Favorite Things, as that would be overdoing it. Instead making a shopping list of your mate’s favorite candy, book, and any other items tailored to their liking, and cleverly wrap them in a nice basket and a bow. Trust us, this will garner a far better reaction than some expensive gift.
A Meaningful Book. If there’s a book you feel you’re Valentine would really enjoy, feel free to share it. Whether a book you’ve actually read or one you think speaks to their interests, book gifting is a great gift because it’s informative, practical and doesn’t send the wrong message.
For Him and Her:
Go Wine Tasting. Plan a trip to a wine tasting with your mate this V-Day. If you really want to get fancy, hire a car service so that you don’t have to worry about traveling (as you may get a little tipsy). Wine tasting is enjoyable not only because of the alcohol content, but because it can be a very intimate experience. Testing out the rich flavors of a range of red and white wines can be quite romantic. It can also be pretty interactive, which will enhance the chemistry and serve as the perfect springboard for the rest of evening, if you know what we mean.
Concert Tickets. Surf the net to see if there are any concerts or live shows happening the night of Valentine’s Day. Whether a musical artist, jazz or Broadway show, you’re sure to impress your mate with a gift in the form of an experience. Even if you can’t find one on Feb. 14, it’ll still make for the perfect gift.
Sports Tickets. If your man loves sports you’ll surely win him over with a pair of tickets to see his favorite team. If you’re not a sports fan, suck it up in the name of love (or lust). It’ll only last a few hours. But when it’s over he’ll more than likely wine and dine you like there’s no tomorrow. Did we mention a nightcap?
Day of Pampering. Every woman wants to feel and be treated like a queen. If there’s a lady in your life, pull out all the stops by treating her with a mani-pedi, full body massage in a day of relaxation.
Edible Arrangement. You really can’t go wrong with an Edible Arrangement. It’s sweet, savory and delivered right to your front door. You can also personalize your gift with a teddy bear, balloons and love note.
2 Years or More
For Him and Her:
Go Jetsetting. When you’ve been with your mate long enough, things can get pretty dull if you don’t keep him or her on their toes. Take V-Day to the next level with the ultimate couple’s trip--preferably out the country. Book a flight to an exotic island or even Paris, the City of Love. Where ever you go just be sure to keep the romance in full effect.
