Stars of 'With This Ring' share experiences with giving a man a proposal ultimatum

Regina Hall, Jill Scott and Eve recently stopped by “The Today Show” to chat about their upcoming Lifetime movie, With This Ring.

The romantic comedy is about three friends who make a pact to get engaged or married within the year. Trista (Hall) is a successful talent agent, Amayah (Eve) is a struggling actress and Scott plays a successful gossip columnist. All three friends are looking for love.

On “The Today Show,” the ladies talked about the real-life pressure on women to get married.

“I thought [the movie] was pretty realistic in some ways,” Scott said. “Regardless of what we do and how much we accomplish, everybody wants to be loved.”

When the host asked who puts the pressure on women, all of the ladies had a response.

“Mothers!” Scott exclaimed.

“And there’s a cultural vow,” Hall added.

Eve said women apply the pressure to themselves.

“It’s cultural, but I think we apply pressures to ourselves, especially women who have a lot going on,” she said. “Sometimes it takes a little while for us to find the right person because we’ve been working on our careers. And we’re like, ‘Oh I forgot to do that. I forgot to get married, I forgot to have kids.”

Hall admitted she made the vow in real life with one of her friends.

“I made that vow,” she said. “I was talking to my girlfriend Sandy and we were on the phone and I was like, ‘By this age, a certain age, we have to get married.’ We can’t walk around blaming being single on our careers. And we said we’re even going to marry the one that...I couldn’t do it.”

Scott also said she gave her ex-husband an ultimatum to propose and the marriage ended five years later.

“I did put pressure on someone to get married. An ultimatum. I did that. It was wack. It was a terrible terrible decision...I said if it doesn’t happen by New Year’s Eve, it’s over. I was asked on December 30.”

With This Ring
airs this Saturday, Jan. 24.
