Who Keeps The Ring When A Couple Ends An Engagement?

Everyone is speculating on why Big Sean and Naya Rivera cancelled their wedding plans...but who keeps the ring?

Rumors are swirling about Big Sean's decision to call off his engagement to "Glee" star Naya Rivera. Some say it's because he cheated, while others say it was Rivera's controlling ways and jealousy. But while everyone is speculating about the cause of their now defunct engagement, what's more of an inquiry is what Naya did with that gorgeous engagement ring.

In the case that Big Sean was unfaithful, should Rivera give back the engagement ring?

In their unique case, it would seem the best option is to tuck the ring away someplace safe until they decide if they're officially calling it quits or simply taking an indefinite break from wedding planning.

But for women who do decide to chuck up the deuces after her man has cheated, giving back the ring may not be the most appealing option. Your fiancée cheating on you is heartbreaking. Having that trust violated in such an intimate way merits at least a consolation prize...and that prize should most certainly be the engagement ring.

While some women would probably opt to give the ring back because it loses its sentimental value after infidelity has taken place, it doesn't hurt to have a nice rock to admire at the end of the day.

Understandably, no one wants to wear a ring that reminds them of the no good of a fiancé who gave it to them in the first place. Something that was once symbolic of your love and his pledge to be faithful and true for the rest of his life, suddenly becomes a symbol of the promises he failed to live up to. With that in mind, maybe the best choice would be to pawn the ring and buy a new piece of jewelry that won't be such a reminder of the pain your ex-fiancé caused you.

But what if he didn't cheat and simply changed his mind...or in the alleged case between Big Sean and Naya, decided to call it quits because he got fed up with your “controlling ways”?

A petty woman would keep the ring because he was ultimately the one to terminate the engagement. The fair thing to do, however, would be to give the ring back...even if you don't agree with his decision or his assessment of your attitude. No use holding on to it.

The general rule: unless in the case a woman is cheated on, the ring should always be returned. It avoids a lot of headache in the long haul.
