The news that NBA superstar Dwyane Wade, 31, fathered his third son while on a temporary break with actress and now fiancee, Gabrielle Union, is scandalous at best. But for the married couple to be, they’ve seemed to have got over the presumably difficult hump in their relationship, considering Union did accept his proposal just a week ago.
As commendable as it is that Union, 41, overlooked Wade’s fathering of his newborn child, it’s safe to say that many women would not have been as forgiving. It takes an incredible mature and strong woman to look past the fact that the love of her life, after several years of dating, not only slept with another woman but impregnated her.
The caveat, of course, is that Wade and Union were on a hiatus from their relationship during the time of conceivement. But we all know how tricky and nuanced a “break” can be. A break means many things to different people, and considering the couple were not apart for long, there was probably an intention on getting back together. Considering this, would that make Wade wrong?
Most likely (and rightfully so) Union was not too pleased to hear that her man was going to be the father of another child - one that’s not with her. And considering Union is over 40 - a not so ideal age to have children from a biological perspective - the news probably stung that much more.
Forgiveness in this unique situation can be hard to come by. Not surprisingly, scenarios like this probably happen more often than not. But no matter what side of the spectrum of to forgive or not forgive a woman falls, it’s a decision that she has to live with for the rest of her life. Imaginably, the average woman may not be able to deal. But when you’re a multi-millionaire and Miami Heat star, you’d be surprised.
Nonetheless, love will make you do crazy things and can cause you to overlook even the most tragic mishaps. And as in the case with Wade and Union, love most definitely conquered all. But when it comes to shaky circumstances such as this, it should be handled on a case by case basis, for it’s most certainly not an easy thing to handle.
If your man fathered a child while the two of you were on break, would you take him back? Sound off.
