Lay under the sun and drink up these spirits concoctions to celebrate the last days of summer

Labor Day is here, which means it’s the sign of the end of summer. But just because the season is coming to close, it doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty to look forward to. Whether you’re socializing with friends, barbecuing with family or simply having a moment of solitude at home, be sure to enjoy a satisfying cocktail--it’ll never steer you wrong.

Classic Spanish Sangria


1 lemon

1 lime

1 orange

1 1/2 cups rum

1/2 cup white sugar

1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine

1 cup orange juice

Have fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice well chilled. Slice lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in large glass pitcher. Pour in rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop flavors. When ready to serve, crush fruit lightly with wooden spoon and stir in wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.



Rosemary Lemon Margarita


8 Lemons (Juice Only)

24 ounces Club Soda

4 Rosemary Sprigs

4 tablespoons Sugar

4 ounces Tequila

Combine lemons, club soda, sugar and tequila in pitcher. Mix well. Refrigerate until cold. Place one rosemary sprig in each of the 4 serving cups. Pour margarita and drink cold or iced.


Lemon Drop Martini


White sugar

1 long strip of lemon zest

1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger citron vodka

1/2 ounce lime juice

1 ounce sweet and sour mix

1 cup crushed ice

Moisten the edges of martini glass with a little lime juice, and then dip moistened edges into sugar. Place lemon zest strip in glass. Combine vodka, lime juice, sweet and sour mix, and ice in shaker. Shake vigorously, and strain into martini glass.



Caribbean Rum Punch


1 cup fresh lime juice

2 cups simple syrup

3 cups amber rum

4 cups orange juice

4 dashes bitters

Freshly grated nutmeg

In pitcher, combine lime juice, simple syrup, rum and orange juice. Add a few dashes of bitters and some grated nutmeg to taste. Serve chilled over ice.



Pink Panther


1 cup crushed ice

1 fluid ounce amaretto liqueur

1 fluid ounce vodka

8 fluid ounces pineapple juice

1 teaspoon grenadine syrup

1 slice fresh pineapple

1 maraschino cherry

In a blender combine ice, amaretto, vodka, pineapple juice and grenadine. Blend well and pour into tall chilled glass. decorate with an umbrella, pineapple slice and cherry.
