Kick off the awards show, right!

Excited about this year’s Soul Train Awards? So are we. And what better way to celebrate the hottest awards show of 2013 than to host a soulful watch party with family and friends? It’s not too late to gather around the television set with some festive drinks and finger foods for a little Soul Train action. But just in case you need some help planning, we’ve come up with some creative ways to hop on board what will certainly be the awards show of the year. It all airs this Sunday, Dec. 1 at 8P/7C on Centric and BET!

Dress the Part - Pick a Soul Train era and dress like you’re one of the dancers. Whether you’re going for the old-school '70s flair or the more modern look in the early 2000s, it’s sure to get everyone in the mood, and ready to dance!

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane - Before the awards show kicks off, have everyone over a little earlier to watch old clips of Soul Train. You’ll quickly be reminded of how epic the show was, especially during it’s prime in the golden era of Don Cornelius.

Make a Special Playlist - While everyone is sipping on wine and eggnog, have a curated playlist going with all of this year’s nominated artists. From Tamar Braxton to Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Keith Sweat, the entire house will be jamming during commercial breaks.

Bust a Soul Train - You can’t have a Soul Train Awards watch party without actually busting out in a soul train line. It’s fun and you burn a little calories in the process. Besides, who doesn’t love a soul train line? It’s a cultural staple.
