Mo’Nique’s dramatic weight loss remains the talk of the town, as she’s become a source of inspiration for many women (and men) seeking to shed a few pounds either to improve their health or boost their self-confidence.
Though the actress and comedienne built her brand on being plus size with books like, “Skinny Women Are Evil” and films like “Phat Girlz,” she says she decided to make a conscious decision to improve her health for her family.
“People always say, ‘Mo’Nique what motivates you?’ I had to do it for my husband and my children and I had to get out of my own way,” Mo’Nique said in a recent interview. “I say to those people who are desperately trying to get healthy, and in those moments when you feel like you can’t go any further...you can.”
The Academy Award winner who stars in Patrik-Ian Polk’s upcoming film, “Blackbird,” previously stated that she tweets out her workouts - which include boxing, football and weight training - because she “wants women to see, you don't have to let them cut you open. You don't have to let them suck it out. You don't have to let them put a band around your organs. All you have to do is put the work.”
