Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard may have been recently ousted on the weight loss competition show, The Biggest Loser, but that hasn’t stopped him from shedding major pounds.
Studdard, who weighed 462 pounds at the start of the show, revealed that since being eliminated, he’s lost an impressive 104 pounds. The singer, who was affectionately known as the “Velvet Teddy Bear” after his Idol win back in 2003, lost 39 pounds in four weeks on The Biggest Loser ranch before he was kicked off.
But losing weight wasn’t his only challenge while on the show.
"It was 10 times harder than I expected," he says. "You know, it wasn't the working out that was the hard part. It was all the other stuff that goes along with being on the ranch — not being able to talk to your family and that stuff. It's very mentally challenging."
Now, Studdard is determined to keep the momentum. "Hopefully I can continue to keep that downward trend going," he says. More importantly, the singer’s eyes are on the real prize, which is his health. His recent diabetes diagnosis has given him even more reason to turn his life around for the better.
"The only cure for that is diet and exercise," he said. "That's what I've been doing."
