American Idol season two's biggest winner Ruben Studdard is vying to become The Biggest Loser this fall on NBC's hit weight-loss reality series.

On Monday, the network confirmed that the 34-year-old Grammy-nominated singer will join the competition for the show's fifteenth season and try his hand at shedding a few pounds. Studdard has battled with his fluctuating weight for years, but is finally looking to curb the bulge.

In 2006, he took part in a healthy eating program at Duke University in Durham, N.C. that resulted in a 70-pound weight loss and a switch to vegetarianism. Yet by 2012, Studdard admitted to talk show host Wendy Williams that both his divorce from wife Surata Zuri McCants and his tax troubles fueled his habit of stress-eating.

Season 15 of The Biggest Loser premieres Tuesday, Oct. 8.
