Holiday tunes are released year after year, but only a few stand the test of time

Year after year, It seems the pool of Christmas songs have remained the same. While artists attempt to introduce new tunes---some successful and some yuletide duds---there are a series of seminal classic songs that continue to incite those warm and fuzzy feelings. But with so many versions of the same song, picking the best can be daunting. No worries, we've got you covered. Check out our picks for the top 13 R&B Christmas songs and covers of all time.

This 1993 uptempo cut from the Grammy Award-winning trio will have you doing an old-school dance and missing your SONY Walkman.

12. Bebe & CeCe Winans - "The First Noel"

The brother-sister gospel singing duo will take you to church with their 1993 cover of the traditional hymn.

There is not another song in Holiday music history that will have you longing for your boo---even if you don't have one---like Carey's 1994 piano-led ballad.

10. Luther Vandross - "Every Year, Every Christmas"

No one did R&B like Luther, and the late singer's smooth vocals on this 1995 tune make that point crystal clear.

9. Boyz II Men - "Let It Snow"

Written by Brian McKnight (who was also featured on the song), this smooth groove by the R&B quartet is the perfect soundtrack for a fireside cuddle session with your boo. Grab the hot cocoa! Or you can just be the hot cocoa.

8. Stevie Wonder - "Someday At Christmas"

Only Stevie could make a Christmas tune a commentary piece on social and political unrest in the U.S. Peace on Earth is what's good!

Our beloved Nippy went to church on this one! The late singer and the legendary gospel choir took on the traditional holiday tune for the 1997 film The Preacher's Wife

Marked by Nat's velvety vocals and a beautiful musical arrangement, the late balladeer's 1961 cover of the Mel Torme-penned tuned is nothing short of definitive.

5. The Jackson 5 - "Give Love on Christmas Day"

Although this song has gone on to be successfully covered by The Temptations, New Edition, Johnny Gill, and Faith Evans; nothing tops Michael's voice on the 1970's original.

This 1994 tune by Mariah needs no introduction. It's played damn near year round.

3. The Jackson 5 - "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town"
No one has ever sang about good ol' Saint Nich's arrival like Michael and his brothers. Who said Santa isn't real!

2. The Temptations - "Silent Night"

Once Dennis Edwards sings "In My Mind..." the tradition is taken to another level. The quintet's vocals on this 1980 cover of the classic tune will have you forgetting it's a Christmas song.

When you hear the opening horn section of the late singer's 1970 tune, you know it's going to be a party. Someone grab the misltoe and [spiked] egg nog!
