It was the cringe-worthy moment seen 'round the world-- literally.

Steve Harvey
became a trending topic Sunday evening while hosting the Miss Universe 2015 pageant in Las Vegas, where he managed to screw up the most important task of the night. While presenting this year's winner, he announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, who was actually the first runner-up.

Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the real winner.

Gutierrez was stripped of the crown and the title onstage, just moments after believing she had won the pageant.

It doesn't get more awkward than that. Or does it?

Harvey later took to Twitter to release an apology to "Miss Philippians" and "Miss Columbia," misspelling both countries in the tweet. It was later deleted.

Harvey released another apology on Facebook, stating:

"I made a terrible mistake tonight in announcing the wrong winner and runner-up for the Miss Universe pageant. I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night. I hope that you can forgive me.

All contestants were amazing but I want to specifically apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines again and wholeheartedly. You both represented well for your countries, families and yourselves."
