'Love & Hip Hop' star receives his sentence for drug trafficking

"Love & Hip Hop" star Mendeecees Harris has been sentenced to eight years in prison for drug trafficking, reports Democrat & Chronicle.

The reality star and husband of Yandy Smith was handed the sentence Tuesday in Rochester, New York. His plea called for eight to 10 years behind bars, with a judge ordering a 97-month sentence.

Harris pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges back in April after admitting to being involved in an operation from 2005 to 2012 that shipped cocaine and heroin to the Rochester area.

Smith responded to news of the sentencing with a post to Instagram, stating:

"Thank you for your continued support. You have no idea how much your love and encouragement means. We finally have closure and are prepared and ready for all the future holds. God and love always prevails. Thank you God for family and love. (I consider some of you I never met family) #resolved #prayedup #blessed."

Harris and Smith, who married in May, share two children together. Harris has two other sons from previous relationships.

Democrat & Chronicle notes that Harris has been free under a bail agreement in which his earnings from the show and paid appearances were turned over to the federal government.

There is no word on when Harris will begin his prison sentence.
