St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the head Tuesday night in Florida.
NFL.com reports the athlete was sitting in a car with family when an unknown assailant pulled up and began shooting. Bailey was struck twice in the head and the driver, his cousin, was hit several times.
Bailey's injuries are said to be non-life threatening and he's scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday. Bailey's cousin sustained life-threatening injuries.
Sources say Bailey is cooperating with police, but the identity of the shooter is unknown.
On Tuesday, the Rams released the following statement: "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."
Bailey, who's been with the Rams since 2013, is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
