Chicago Bulls star says he is confident he will be proven innocent

An attorney for Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose is denying a woman's claim that she was sexually assaulted by Rose and two of his friends and is asking for the civil complaint to be thrown out, reports TMZ

Last month, Rose was sued by the woman who alleged he and his friends broke into her Los Angeles apartment and gang raped her while she was incapacitated. But new court documents filed last Thursday claim the accuser "consented to sexual interaction with more than one co-defendant on more than one occasion, consented to sexual interactions on the day in question, and invited the defendants to her apartment and buzzed them in."

While Rose isn't denying having a sexual relationship with the woman, he says she is lying about the night in question. The morning after having sex, Rose claims the woman casually had a cup of coffee with her roommate and headed into work for a full shift, which could be seen as strange behavior for a rape victim.

Rose believes the woman took legal action after becoming upset with him a few weeks later because she felt she should have been reimbursed for a sex toy bought and used during the night in question. Rose says she was also angry because he started ignoring her texts.

The woman is suing for unspecified damages.

During the Bulls' media day on Monday, Rose addressed the allegations, stating: "I will be proven innocent. But at the same time, [the suit] hasn't affected anything. It's not true. I take it as motivation. I feel like the devil's just working. I feel like I'm on the right track as far as where I want to be at in my life and the direction I want to go. And I just feel like when you're that focused, people try to take you down, so I'm very confident that I will be proven innocent."

The case has been transferred to U.S. District Court and a scheduling conference is set for Nov. 9.

Updates to the court case come as it was announced Rose suffered a left orbital fracture in practice on Tuesday (Sept. 29). He will undergo surgery Wednesday and a timetable for his return will not be known until after the procedure.
