The series is set to be released next spring

Big news for all you comic book fans: Ta-Nehisi Coates has been tapped to write a new Black Panther series for Marvel.

According to the New York Times, the project will be released next spring. Coates, a contributor at The Atlantic and author of the best-selling book "Between the World and Me," has long expressed his love for comics, but says the folks at his day job don't quite understand his passion.

"The Atlantic is a pretty diverse place in terms of interest, but there are no comics nerds," Coates told the NYT. His deal came after he interviewed Marvel editor Sana Amanat back in May about diversity and inclusion in comic books.

Coates is collaborating with artist Brian Stelfreeze to tell a story of revolution, terrorism and heroism.

The series will be released ahead of Marvel's upcoming Black Panther film starring Chadwick Boseman, which is set for November 2017. It remains to be seen how the series will impact the movie.
