If there's one thing Brandy Norwood learned from her failed relationship with ex-fiancé Ryan Press it's that business and pleasure do not mix.
The couple, who became engaged in 2012, went their separate ways in April 2014 without much of an explanation as to why the romance fizzled out. But in a recent interview with UPTOWN magazine, the veteran singer/actress provided a bit more insight into why she and Press never made it down the aisle.
"Ryan and I were just two completely different people and we found that out when we were already in love with each other. Sometimes it happens," she explained. "It hurt him, it hurt me and it hurt my daughter. It was a really hard time and another phase of the sadness that was a cloud for a while."
In an interview last month with NewYork.com, Norwood admitted that her depression took a toll on her body, which showed in her physical frame and in her eyes. She credited her recovery to doing the "work" spiritually, mentally and physically to get back to her old self.
Now, with rave reviews for her work in Chicago, a BET series on the way and new music on the horizon, Brandy is back and better than ever. And she's learned a thing or two about relationships that she'll take into the future.
"I will not mix business with pleasure anymore," she told UPTOWN. "I think that’s one of the things that does not work for me. I get confused about who a person is. That’s one of the things that I know that I will never ever do if I am ever to have time or make time for another relationship. I want to keep my business and my personal separate."
