Taye Diggs might be having a little too much fun with his newest role on Broadway, and he's not afraid to show it.
Ahead of his debut in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the seasoned actor spoke with "Entertainment Tonight" about his role as a transsexual singer in the Tony Award-winning production. He says he's quickly found how difficult it is to get dolled up on a regular basis.
"I've always told my friends I have a flaming gay man inside of me," Diggs said. "She is coming out now. It's fun and difficult. I don't know how you girls do it in heels all day every day."
Diggs will become the first black man to take on the genderqueer character, which has been met by a bit of criticism from fans. Still, he seems unbothered by the role, as his 5-year-old son Walker and ex-wife Idina Menzel have no problem with him playing dress up.
"[Walker] is so adjusted," Diggs added. "He's unfazed. I think he's on the path of being a really cool adult."
Diggs will begin his 12-week stint in Hedwig and the Angry Inch beginning July 22 at the Belasco Theatre.
