West says his mom was sacrificed in his quest for fame

The untimely death of Kanye West's mother is still a sensitive subject for the rapper and, apparently, a tragedy he takes the blame for.

In a new interview with the UK's Q magazine, Kanye briefly expresses his guilt in the passing of Donda West, who died in November 2007 from complications from a plastic surgery procedure. When asked what he sacrificed for his fame, Kanye replied: "My mom."

"If I had never moved to L.A. she'd be alive," he said. "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."

The controversy surrounding Donda's death has long been a blame game, with fingers being pointed at the plastic surgeon who performed the operation and Kanye's cousin who oversaw Donda's post-surgery care.

An autopsy report ultimately found that Donda died of coronary artery disease and other post-operative factors.
