Former MLB player Darryl Hamilton has been killed in a murder-suicide at a suburban Houston home, authorities confirmed.
Police say Hamilton, 50, was found Sunday after being fatally shot several times. Officers also discovered a woman in the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She has been identified as 44-year-old Monica Jordan, the mother of Hamilton's 14-month-old child.
The young child was found unharmed at the home and turned over to Child Protective Services.
"All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy," commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the baseball family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl's family and his many friends throughout our game."
Hamilton played for five teams over the course of 13 seasons before retiring in 2001. In 2000, he was the standout center fielder on the New York Mets as the team went to the World Series.
He was working as an analyst for the MLB Network at the time of his death.
