Hey White People: These Hairstyles Aren't New

We know y’all like jacking our fresh. Hell, we've pretty much have given you all everything you've needed to feel stylish, on trend and current. And, we’ve done so unwillingly, receiving no credit. But with Kim Kardashian getting props for cornrows, it's now time for a wake up call.

Cornrows = Your "Boxer Braids"
They’re called cornrows, mkay? (Photo: Victor Boyko/Getty Images)
Bantu Knots = Your "twisted mini buns" or "top knots"
We know, “twisted mini buns” is just so much easier to pronounce. But, sorry hun, they’re called Bantu Knots and they started with us. (Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images for Clear Channel)
Baby Hair = Your "Tendrils"
It’s called taking some gel (or mousse or beeswax) and laying down those edges, aka baby hair. If you all need a more comfortable reference, see Jennifer Lopez. (Photo: JB Lacroix/WireImage)
Individuals or Extensions = Your "artificial braids"
I know, you thought it was cute when Christina Auguilera “debuted” fake braids at the 2001 Grammys, but we’ve been getting our individuals done at the shop on the corner and in our basements for decades. (Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images)
[There is no set name] = Your "hair tattoos" or "undercut tattoos"
Hey Allure Magazine, this wasn't started by some blogger or pop star on Instagram... (Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images)
Afro= "Afro"
Well, at least you all didn’t attempt to change the name. But, let’s be real: teaching white women how to “get an Afro” is pretty much cultural appropriation. (Photo: Parkwood Entertainment / Columbia Records)
