Yes, I know it’s summer. No, this trend isn’t just for fall.
Now, let’s back track a little. At the 2015 BET Awards, Riri showed up in a satin tuxedo jacket that appeared to be a dress, but had matching shorts underneath. While I didn’t overlook the fact that she pretty much borrowed from the boys effortlessly, I did forget that this is kind of an epic look that pretty much any woman can pull off.
Here’s why you’d want to and how you can do it.
First of all, you want to go a bit oversized
You can always tailor the jacket if you’re really digging in your man’s closet. But, the tuxedo should fit the waistline well, and flare out a bit around the hips. You also want to make sure you fill out the top well. If you feel too uncomfortable rocking the tuxedo jacket the way Ri did (braless), then add a camisole underneath for a more demure effect.
Secondly, you don’t want to go too short
Mid-thigh is about right. It shows enough of your legs without making it uncomfortable to walk around in. Remember, the best element of the tuxedo as a dress is the fact that you’re exuding sex appeal without showing too much. Your arms, waist, and even breast are predominately covered. But the best way to look sexy is to feel sexy. And the only way to truly feel sexy is to feel comfortable. Catch my drift?
Finally, you want to add a matching pair of shorts or skirt underneath
Yes, play copycat to Rihanna’s look. Add a flared, high waisted short that flows seamlessly with the jacket. You’ll be so glad you did this when your favorite song comes on the dance floor and you’re ready to move all night.
By the way, don’t take this “trend” so seriously. It’s fun way to turn heads and switch up your style without the hassle. Plus, there’s nothing sexier than pulling off a man’s look better than the man himself.
