Sometimes winning in the long term means you have to take an immediate loss. Yaya DaCosta knows about this first hand. The actress and model may have lost “America’s Next Top Model,” but her career has far surpassed many of the show’s winners.
The Ivy-league graduate landed a spot in Tom Ford’s Fall 2014 advertising campaign. In all black, DaCosta is fiercely rocking a carefree, glorious ‘fro as the only Black woman in the ad.
Fashion Times reports that the images shot by Johnny Dufort are meant to showcase everyone’s personal style. In addition to DaCosta, the campaign features Gigi Hadid, Ashleigh Good, Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Patrick, Sabrina Ioffreda, Ella Richards, Vanentijn de Hingh, Lida Fox and Ian Mellencamp.
“The concept is individual style, which was the idea behind my first women's show in N.Y. The campaign is focused on the personal, individual style of different types of women," Ford told WWD.
The sequin jersey dress and animal print jacket make a cameo in the campaign’s main image, which features eight wide range looks from Ford’s Fall 2014 campaign.
DaCosta’s gorgeous face will be featured in both domestic and international glossies like Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair in the mags’ September issues.
DaCosta will also star as the legendary Whitney Houston in an upcoming biopic directed by Angela Bassett.
