An Olivia Pope-inspired fashion line is on its way to stores for the millions of women who ogled over the fictitious DC fixer’s impeccable style.
Kerry Washington and costume designer Lyn Paolo have partnered with The Limited for a Scandal fashion line, reports Us Weekly.
“By creating a line inspired by the show, we are introducing a collection that embodies the elegance and power of the Scandal aesthetic for real-life gladiators and everyday fashionistas," Washington said in a press release. “The collection is a nod to our devoted fans, to fans of fashion and to women everywhere who are inspired to boldly pursue their passions and look good while doing it."
Every Thursday, Washington was bombarded on Twitter with fans asking the designer of a long trench coat or who made the stylish pants suit she’d rock while saving the world. Soon the Olivia Pope-esque fashionista pieces will be available for all.
The new mom worked with The Limited’s head of design and Paolo to create the lines' pants, outerwear, tops and jackets. As Scandal’s costume designer, Paolo has built her own cult-like following.
"It's been really fun to have a voice at every stage of the production from picking buttons, choosing fabrics and weighing in on hair and makeup people," Washington told Women's Wear Daily. "People who love the look of the show can now step into this world in a way that is affordable and accessible because not everybody can afford to have the clothes they see on the show."
Affordability is key. In lieu of the pricey designer labels like Dolce & Gabana and Prada that Pope dons flawlessly, prices for the line will start at $49.
"The whole team took great care in creating a collection that reflects Olivia Pope's unique style. We believe the collection tells a story of confidence and professional sophistication as well as maintaining a strong feminine point of view," Paolo said in a press release. "I am so excited and hopeful that our Gladiators are as excited about the collection as we are; it has been such tremendous fun and such an honor to design for the amazing characters that Shonda Rhimes has created and now to help make their style accessible to all."
Self-proclaimed Gladiators will be able to shop until they drop for the Pope-inspired pieces (neutral colors, pant suits, fly jackets, modern-chic ensembles) beginning in late September at The Limited stores nationwide.
