Michelle Obama will kick off her workweek in New York as she helps open the Metropolitan Museum of Art's revamped Costume Institute during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday morning.
The first lady is slated to speak at the event for the renovated gallery which will now go by the Anna Wintour Costume Center, named after Vogue magazine's editor-in-chief. The audience will include students from the Fashion Institute of Technology and the High School of Fashion Industries.
The two-year, $40 million renovation has carved out rooms for exhibition galleries, a library, a conservation laboratory, research areas and offices. The Anna Wintour Costume Center's inaugural show will be dedicated to master couturier Charles James on May 8.
Unfortunately for Michelle, she'll be missing out on the annual Met Gala taking place later that evening. The White House says she is expected to attend two New York events for the Democratic National Committee.
