Solange’s artistic niche is why she’s now seen as herself, opposed to Beyoncé’s little sister. Fly as she wants to be, artsy and outspoken too, Solo is soaring.
Puma made the wise decision to name Solange the Art Director and Creative Consultant for the brand known for its lightweight sneakers and carry-on size bags. Homegirl got straight to work on the new campaign.
The Girls of Blaze lookbook has arrived! Shot by boyfriend Alan Ferguson, the 27-year-old singer/songwriter/DJ posted the photos on her Saint Records Instagram account. Big curly hair, vibrant colors, various skin hues and artistic backgrounds to make the sneakers pop made this lookbook scream edgy and chic. It has Solange's taste palette written all over it.
In an interview, she said living in New York City was when she started opting for a statement sneaker opposed to pumps because it was more practical. Hopping from cab to cab or hitting the pavement after getting off the subway is the fastest way for a woman’s feet to be in agonizing pain.
"I think women have really focused on the idea that sexiness and femininity is a state of mind, really projecting confidence throughout the voice of saying when I feel good, I look good. That can be interpreted in so many ways…but certainly a level of comfort can exist. You will never have more fun at the club when you are wearing sneakers really dancing your a-- off!"
The behind-the-scene video shows how Solange made her concepts come to life. The campaign is authentic as it stayed true to Solange's own personal style and creativity. It has been lovely to watch Solange come into her own as a young woman. She’s crazy talented and creative, and this moment she’s having in fashion seems to be here to stay. We hope so.
