Publicly responding to Rihanna’s Instagram spoof didn’t payoff for Teyana Taylor. Her beef with the Bajan superstar resulted in Taylor being officially dropped from Adidas.
Teyana’s Original Harlem Good Luck Charm collaborative sneaker with Adidas debuted this February. Fans flocked to stores for the black and gold high top sneaker. Its success led to Adidas greenlighting a second design that was slated for a November release.
On Black Friday the sneaker was nowhere to be found. When fans asked where the shoe was, a rep for Taylor denied any claims of the G.O.O.D. Music artist being dropped and said the sneaker was “on hold.”
MadameNoire.com reached out to Adidas and they confirmed that they've ended their collaboration with the singer.
“We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her,” said an Adidas representative.
When asked why Taylor was dropped the rep remained tight lipped, but did offer this: “All I can say is that Adidas partners with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at Adidas and we don’t condone violence of any kind.”
The last statement leads one to intelligently believe she was dropped over the Twitter beef with Rihanna. During the singers' spat, which started over Rihanna posting a spoof video teasing Taylor, threats were made, names were called, Twitter headers were changed. It was ugly.
Teyana changed her Twitter header to a picture of Rihanna’s battered face and photoshopped a picture of herself with a boxing glove next to Rihanna's bruised face. A petition was immediately started for Adidas to drop Taylor once Rihanna's domestic violence picture was brought into the feud.
It looks like this is one of the times a petition really did result in change.
