A nude Tyson Beckford posing with transgendered model Ines Rau caused quite the stir.
In a new spread for French luxury magazine, OOB, Tyson Beckford and Ines Rau pose nude. The racy photos show the two models holding one another in various poses. Tyson Beckford is known for his work with Tommy Hillfiger and Ralph Lauren in the '90s. Ines Rau is a Parisian model who recently came out as transgender.
Both models look amazing. Tyson still has it at 42. A beautiful moment for the often non-inclusive fashion industry was quickly turned into questions of Tyson’s sexuality. Blog commenters wondered if this was Tyson’s way of “coming out.” Blog commenters actually equated Tyson's posing with a woman as him being gay because many cannot grasp the idea of Ines is in fact a woman. To those same commenters she will always be a man because she was born male.
Tyson isn’t the only model who has found himself caught in the whirlwind of controversy.
In 2007, the media had a field day with an image of her on the beach that didn’t resemble the paper thin supermodel they were used to. Tired of the media's attacks on her body Tyra took matters into her own hands. On The Tyra Banks Show, she told the media to, “kiss my fat a--.” It’s safe to say the media left her alone after that.
Naomi’s response to controversy is yachting. As the OG badgirl, Naomi is no stranger to making headlines. In 2010, Campbell was summoned to testify in a war crime tribunal over blood diamonds she’d allegedly accepted from Liberia’s former president in 1997. The supermodel originally denied being given any diamonds, but testified that she was given “dirty looking” diamonds that she then gave to Jeremy Ractliffe, former director of Nelson Mandela's children's charity.
Iman has managed to stay out of controversy in her decades-long career. But the model did have something bold to say about Vogue Italia’s “Slave Earrings” in 2011. Iman was not happy.
"The naming of it, I don’t get it. I sometimes wonder in this age of reality shows has it become part of the language-the more controversy the more [buzz] it creates. But yeah, I didn’t like it. Slave does not make it ethnic. Mind you, it’s not lost in translation-the word slave, we know what it is. They might as well have called them 'n**** earrings.'"
In 2010 the Victoria’s Secret model was arrested for allegedly assaulting another woman. A night on the town of allegedly celebrating her break up with then-boyfriend Sean Penn turned into a night in cuffs.
The former plus-sized model has managed to keep a clean image, but she wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion on A$AP Rocky’s controversial statements that dark-skinned women shouldn’t wear red lipstick. In response Toccara said, "His comments show he has self-hate. Doesn't he love himself? How do you make a comment like that when you're brown yourself?"
