has no doubt had her fair share of health ailments, and by publicly addressing her medical hardships, she has become a beacon of hope for women across the world, helping drive awareness to a variety of diseases and disorders including, Lupus, Autism (her youngest son is a sufferer), and Heart disease. The Grammy Award winning entertainer will continue her charitable contributions by lending her celebrity to The Heart Truth's
annual Red Dress CollectionSM
2013 Fashion Show in New York City.
The Centric/BET Networks
co-sponsored event, that celebrates women's heart health, will feature Braxton alongside 19 other female celebrities modeling a collection of red dresses created by some of Americas top fashion designers.
Braxton, faced her first bout of heart related issues during her 2004 stint in the Broadway production of 'Aida.' During the engagement, she learned that she suffered from pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining of the heart. A condition that now causes her heart to flutter now. If that news wasn't a crushing blow to the physically fit star, in 2007, she discovered she suffered from high blood pressure: 160/105 without medication. A condition that would soon be topped by her 2009 diagnosis with Lupus.
For over 10 years, the Red DressSM
has become a national symbol for women and heart disease awareness, becoming a striking visual reminder for women to focus on their "outerselves" and "innerselves", especially heart health.
This year's show will serve as one of the major kick off events for American Heart Month, which is recognized the entire month of February.
