The two-time NBA champ is partnering with Audemars Piguet for his Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph limited edition watch, priced at a staggering $51,500. And while it won't give you any special super powers or solve life's problems, it sure is a fine looking timepiece.
James reportedly chose the same sports model selected by JAY Z who previously served as a brand ambassador and turned the basketball star onto fine watches. His version features an 18-karat pink gold case and oversize Arabic numerals paired with a gray patterend dial and interchangeable crocodile and rubber straps.
"I tried to do something different with a cool factor, like what Beats by Dre did for headphones," James says of his creation. "The Royal Oak is my favorite style because it allows you to wear a suit, sweats or swim trunks, and is slightly urban without being limited to an urban customer."
Audemars Piguet chief executive officer Francois-Henry Bennahmias added: "The ultimate goal is that it had to be able to be worn with a suit and tie since LeBron is elegant. He isn’t just a shorts and sneakers guy. It couldn’t be too small due to his height, but regular people are lucky that we reduced the case size to accommodate his thin wrist."
Six hundred watches have been manufactured for well-to-do consumers. On Friday, the brand will celebrate its launch in a private event in Miami and at Audemars Piguet stores worldwide.
Well played, LeBron.
