This isn’t about the makeup you’re putting on. Or the hairstyle that you’re wearing. This is about the stressful mornings that are probably contributing to you feeling and looking worn out.
The mornings can be tough. If you’re single, you probably start wondering and worrying about everything you need to get accomplished for the day the minute your feet hit the ground.
If you have children, you may always feel like you’re rushing to get them out the door and to school on time. The mornings can be a hassle, leaving less time for you to set the positive intention for the day, and cater to your beauty the way you’d like to.
But in all honesty, they don’t have to be this way.
Here are a few tips that can help evolve your morning routine from scrambled to organized and productive.
Tip #1: Do not look at your phone
We mean it. No social media, no emails, no texts, nothing. If you use your phone as an alarm, hit the alarm button and turn it face down on your nightstand for at least 30 minutes.
Tip #2: Give yourself 5 minutes to write in a journal
Just five. Don’t over do it. Whether you write down something that has been bothering you, a mantra or positive affirmation, the goal is to clear your mind for the day. When you write in your journal, you’ll feel yourself breathing and releasing anything you’ve held in your mind, body and spirit.
Tip #3: Take your time with your prep
This one may be hard for women who are caretakers. But, if you can wake up even 15 minutes earlier to give yourself a moment in the bathroom, pour some coffee or tea and just sit still by yourself, you’ll feel so much happier.
Tip #4: Live in the moment of cleaning your face and applying your makeup
It may sound cheesy, but actually taking your time to wash your face gently, pick out your lipstick for the day and apply your makeup will help you feel stress-free. You’ll feel like you’re pampering yourself instead of rushing to look halfway decent for the day. You’ll also get the chance to look at your beautiful face and appreciate all that you are.
Tip #5: Sit down and eat your breakfast
With the kids, your boo or by yourself. It doesn’t matter. Eat and eat well. Talk to each other, ask what you all want to accomplish for the day or what you’re looking forward to. Many people overlook the positive effect of sitting down for a morning meal and just being at peace.
Now, while these steps sounds simple, we know that tweaks will have to be made for each individual woman. The point is to take out the unnecessary stress that we add to our morning routines. Social media can drive you nuts. The news may even be too depressing to consume first thing in the morning. Depending on your job, you may be required to check your emails in the AM. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t give yourself at least 15 minutes of nothing before you do so.
Work on incorporating a structured morning routine and pay attention to how you feel and look. For me, I started to notice that my skin was more vibrant and the bags under my eyes weren’t as heavy. Stress not only can cause health damages, but it can affect how we look too. And ladies, looking anything less than fabulous is not an option.
