Why You Should Understand BB Cremes and Tinted Moisturizers

While the concept is similar, there is a vast difference between BB crèmes and tinted moisturizers many women still haven’t learned. For starters, let me tell you what BB stands for: Blemish Balm cream. Okay, that solves the first part. And, obviously, a blemish balm crème is to do just that: banish your blemishes to create an even complexion.

However, there are a few really important factors to know about BB crèmes and tinted moisturizers. So let's get started.

A Few Ways to Get Over Your Summer Body Insecurities

BB Crèmes

The craze began in Asia, where a lot of famous actresses started wearing the product on their face. BB crèmes have a slight whitening power in their formulas and they don’t usually come in various shades. The good news, though, is that if you can get your hands on a product that matches your complexion, you’ll get ample wear and SPF out of it. Most have an SPF of 35 or higher. BB crèmes also offer enough coverage where it can be worn as a foundation substitute. They’re also usually pretty cheap. Their biggest claim to fame is to help diminish blemishes while evening out your skin. But, that only really happens for those who are lucky enough to find their perfect match. They also have really good anti-aging benefits.

The verdict: If you’re looking for close-match alternative to your foundation (something on the go and quick) then it’s safe for you to begin your search for a BB crème.

Tinted Moisturizers

First and foremost, this product cannot be used as a foundation alternative. That’s not its purpose. This is a creamy formula that has a thin consistency. It works to create a natural glow on your skin, but lacks a high level of pigmentation. Think “I want to look like I just left the beach”. Tinted moisturizers also have no whitening benefits and are usually a tad more expensive. They do, however, come in various shades, which can be good for darker women.

The verdict: If you’re looking for that natural, on-the-go glow without the heavy consistency, the tinted moisturizer is your best bet. Some have a low SPF as well.
