Getting your manicures and pedicures is a luxury, but why not invest that luxury money into a Black owned nail salon? While this is just a quick list of Black owned salons in NYC, we’re glad to direct some of our Big Apple residents to three amazing nail salons in the area.
Polish Bar Brooklyn (Brooklyn)
An all time favorite in the Clinton Hill area, Polish Bar Brooklyn has been catering to the well being of natural, healthy nails for 9 years. Owner Tricia Lee foresaw the now obsessed trend of natural nails over-taking acrylic dominance, and set forth to create a salon based on the idea that natural nails would be the new “it” thing. And now, they are. Setting the standard on nail service, the highly popular and acclaimed salon offers affordable, luxurious experiences in a feminine, calming environment. Tricia Lee was determined to help women “get pretty” and do so at an affordable price. Making sure women feel their best is her greatest focus, and that pours into the spirit of the nail salon. When you walk in, you’ll be sure to feel an instant calmness that shuts out the craziness of your day.
Bed of Nails (Harlem)
Owned by Candice Idehen, the Harlem based nail salon’s name is pretty much self-explanatory. Bed of Nails makes you feel like you’re in your own room, getting pampered in your personal space. The glamour meets urban chic salon will leave you wanting more, as the technicians precisely work hard to leave you with the best experience possible. Idehen, who was instrumental in the launch of the Essie for L’Oreal campaign, works hard to make sure her clients are always satisfied, ready to come back for more. She’s also had her personal nail work featured in Harper’s Bazaar and French Vogue, and has even provided her services to celebrities like Jessica Alba and Estelle.
The Nail Boutique (Brooklyn)
Another favorite in the Brooklyn area, The Nail Boutique is full service salon, offering acrylic sets, waxings and nail treatments. Featured on an episode of Love and Hip Hop NYC, owner Sabrina is growing her clientele and popularity with her salon’s down-to-earth vibe. If you’re looking for a place to come and relax, while chatting it up with amazing women, The Nail Boutique is your spot.
