Mainstream Makeup Brands that Make Foundation for Dark Skin

We answer the one question Black women keep on asking

Question: "Are there any cosmetic brands that make good foundations for darker skin?"

Answer: Absolutely! See below:

Kat Von D

Surprisingly, Kat Von D has about 8 darker shades in her Lock-It Tattoo Foundation collection. The scent may be the only reason you don’t purchase it. But, I’ll say that the smell wears off eventually. The good thing is that you’ll get full, matte coverage that last all day long.

blackUp Cosmetics

The only thing that isn’t perfect about this brand is that it’s based out of France, so you’d have to order your best foundation online. But, they have a new product that may help you determine your best color under their line for a low cost of $5: the CC cream 5 shades pack. Once you figure out your best shade, opt for one of their Cream to Powder foundations , or the new Matifying Liquid Foundation.

Bobbi Brown

The latest obsession from Bobbi Brown is the Long Wear Even Finish SPF 15. Espresso 10 is the darkest shade and the coverage is buildable.

IMAN

The Second to None Cream to Powder Foundation is really amazing. What I love most about Iman’s product is that it’s affordable and can be purchased pretty much at every Target or Ulta store nearby.

YSL

I’ll be clear: YSL doesn’t have very dark colors. But, they do have very good brown shades. I use the Le Teint Touche Eclat , during the winter, and my shade is B 90. In the summer, I get too dark to wear the foundation. Just being honest here. Also, be mindful that this foundation is best used in colder months.

Make Up For Ever

The HD High Definition Foundation is a good pick for full coverage that doesn’t look heavy. You can also pick your foundation based on your undertone. But I’d suggest you go to your nearest Sephora because the colors online don’t perfectly match the colors in person.

Becca

For women with acne or breakout prone skin, Becca may be a good fit for you. They have a good array of shades for darker complexions, and help you understand, via imagery, what you’ll likely be looking for if you’re shopping online. The most acclaimed foundation from them so far is the Ever-Matte Shine Proof foundation.

NARS*

This is another brand with a limited amount of darker shades. But, the Sheer Glow Foundation is a very good lightweight formula that is also buildable. Khartoum is the darkest shade they have and you’ll pay $45.

Lancome

The Teint Idole Ultra 24H foundation has 8 darker shades and works really well in the warmer months. There’s very minimal smudging and transfer, so you won’t have to reapply often.

MAC

The best foundations from MAC, at the moment, seem to be Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 and the Studio Tech
